Tom Townsley

Blooming Through

I call this piece "Blooming Through". See my world has been kind of gloomy over the last couple days. For one, it's been rainy; for another, my husband has been away. I missed him and I guess my art reflected this.

I have been playing in the warm colors lately, this time I started with a black background.

I am a bit bummed about my photos of late. I can't seem to capture my pieces in their entirety. Maybe it's because I have been painting larger canvases. Not sure, I just know that they don't do justice to the actual piece. They don't reflect the true depth of color. All the layers and marks of the crayons and pencils. This is the best part!

Below I am showing you closeup shots, those which capture the color and texture.(Click on thumbnail to see enlargement)

...

MATERIALS USED: Canvas panel, gesso (black), acrylic paint, Neo-Color II Crayons, Faber-Castell Gelatos, acrylic glaze medium, Signo pen, China marker.

Do Over in Color

Have you ever had a piece you just did NOT like so you decided to try to redo it? Well what about redoing it four times?! Yeah, that's where I'm at this week.

Started with this...

I didn't like it so I scribbled all over it.

Added some more color. And marks. And drips.

THOUGHT I saw a pig, so I went with it. But I guess pigs just are not my thing.

So I started to add more color and BINGO!

Materials used: Gesso, acrylics, Neo-color II crayons, Fineliner.

You can see all the layers in these closeups.

See the pig tail?! LOL

What IS it about layers of color, they just make everything better. I am jazzed* everytime I look at this!       pumped-upstimulatedstoked!

Pretty, Pretty Posies!

I have been working on a new piece. I started with a 20x24 canvas which I have coated with black gesso.

I added just a few colors to start my background plus a few marks.

After a few more marks I began to see flowers. Do you see them? ...

and then I found MORE flowers!

                                 ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Closeup of flower at bottom, center.

Just a few more colorful views

here is the finished piece -

I think it's kind of amazing how it goes from boring and dark to THIS colorful. I would have never guessed that I would end up loving this painting so much!

Taking part in the 100 Day Project with Elle Luna over at The Great Discontent.  We had to come up with our own hashtag to use to describe our 100 days of making - mine is #100daysofochre.

Here's a look at mBy Day 43:   Canvas (12x16)

Materials Used: Gesso, Fine Line applicator, Golden fluid acrylic paints, Chuji Fude brush pen, Stabilo pencil, acrylic glaze medium.

I wish I could capture the deep tones of this piece. Y0u will have to take my word for it - it's just dreamy!
