Sci-Fi Blog Hop

It's REVEAL DAY for the Sci-Fi Blog Hop hosted by Pamela Rachelle of The Crazy Creative Corner.

I have absolutely NO clue how I got myself involved with this blog hop...OH YEAH, Sandra McGriff! She posted a last call on the Facebook group Creative Bead Chat. It was like some spell came over me, I jumped in and committed myself to join!

I don't like Sci- Fi. No offense, it's just NOT MY THING! and I don't know too much about it. First thing that came to mind was "The Jetsons"! (Sad, huh?) I was planning to do something funky with Rosie in mind. Don't act like you don't know who Rosie is!

The more I talked with my husband and my friend Marlene the more I realized that THAT would. not. do!

So then I just turned to the biggest Sci-Fi adventure I could think of - "Star Trek", of course.

Marlene suggested the final idea - it's the Starfleet communicator badge.

"In Star Trek: The Next Generation (TNG) and later series, Starfleet officers and enlisted personnel wear small communicator badges on their left breast. These devices are in the shape of the Starfleet insignia and are activated with a light tap."  Courtesy of Wikipedia

Sorta like a bluetooth...

I made it into a pin (hey, I only had one day, give me a break!)

So that's it, my short visit to the "unknown".  Happy Sandra?! LOL!

Want more? Of course you do.. warm up your flying saucers, or whatever! and visit the other participants-

New Year–New Challenge: Art Jewelry Elements' Earring Challenge

8352036706_fe7ff1ef21_m

For those who I haven’t chatted with since December let me first say,  HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Its already 2013, where does the time go?! Seems like just yesterday we were embarking on a new millennium and all it promised. Do you remember all the hullabaloo surrounding Y2K?! Well thank goodness most of the fears were unfounded. Even so, it does seem like that was just yesterday. The days fly by and with them all my plans and ideas too!  I always have a million ideas running through this head of mine. I even “work” at them in my sleep. But they never seem to find life. I often wish that someone would hurry up and invent a machine to suck the ideas outta my head and write them down for me! My mind isn’t the steel trap it used to be and I just can't even keep up with myself anymore!

Though I know that art and the creative process are supposed to be free flowing,  ALL that free flowing stuff just seems to takes me in circles and I find myself chasing my own tail (tale?!)  I find I need deadlines and structure. I NEED someone to set my direction and  give me short-term goals.  Guess that’s why I love swaps, blog hops and challenges so much - AND why I jumped right on the ART JEWELRY ELEMENT’s 2013 Earring Challenge. Something to get me creating with results I can see right away!

To meet the challenge ALL I HAVE TO DO is to make ONE pair of earrings per week. Rules state that each pair must include at least one artisan component, such as a handmade charm or bead. The artisan components may be made by another artist or myself. Every two weeks we post a link to our designs and make sure to give the artist credit for their component.

Simple. I LOVE simple.

So with that being said I want to share with you my earring designs from the first two weeks of the challenge -

Week 1 ::
Featuring polymer clay beads by Marlene Cupo of Amazing Designs by Marlene. Take a peek at her handmade polymer clay bead listings in her Artfire shop. ONE of a KIND beauties!

Week 2 ::
Featuring ceramic beads by Elaine Ray. She has gorgeous beads and can be found at Ornamentea.com

W2 CW2 A

Chunky Turquoise-Looking and Amber Earrings by TORI SOPHIA available in my Etsy shop

Tune in on February 3rd for more!
In the meantime stop on over to Art Jewelry Elements and admire even more fantastic earring designs!

ANNOUNCEMENT: Another Round?!

Holiday time. Everyone seems to immediately think of the season we just ended, but POOH, who wants to wait a whole 344 days to celebrate again? HMMMMM? We hear ya!

We looked at the calendar and realized there are fantastic holidays, from so many amazing cultures, to celebrate all year, so why not? Bet there's more than one crafter out there who enjoys making things related to holidays throughout the year, so LETS SHARE the fun.

Starting today we will be having sign ups for HBBH 3, through to January 27th. Partners (limited to a total of 30, so don't delay) will be picked and notified by February 1st.

You and your partner will decide what holiday you want to create for, BUT it has to be celebrated in the months of February and March (No making Halloween pumpkin earrings just yet!).

Some suggestions are:

· Ground Hog Day - Feb 2

· Chinese New Year - Feb 10
· National Foundation Day (Japan) - Feb 11
· Mardi Gras thru Feb 12
· St Valentine's Day - Feb 14
· National Flag Day (Canada) - Feb 15
· Do a Grouch a Favor Day - Feb 16
· International Dog Biscuit Appreciation Day - Feb 23
· Purim - Feb 23-24
· Saint David's Day (Wales, UK) - March 1
· Barbie's Birthday - March 9
· Commonwealth Day (UK) - March 11
· St. Patrick's Day - March 17
· Feast of St. Joseph (Italy) - March 18
· Big Bird's Birthday - March 20
· Greek Independence Day - March 25
· Start of Passover - March 25
· Easter - March 31

Feel free to use your own or choose from the above list, as We DID NOT make any of these up!

Finished items should be mailed to your partner by February 23rd, and the reveal will be on March 16th. No problems, right? Plenty of time to create, between shoveling piles of the snow, or at least blowing the leaves off the driveway.

To sign up please reply via email, to
marshellswaps@gmail.com, with your name, mailing address, blog URL, and if you are willing to ship internationally, as in the past (Even you repeat offender attendees. We're trying to develop a data base for future use, hehehe). Don't forget to sign up for our email feed (on the sidebar), so you get all the latest news delivered right to your mail box.

Happy Ground Hog Day (and all the rest)!

REVEAL: Memories and Thanks Blog Hop
