#100 Day Project: Day 29

Taking part in the 100 Day Project with Elle Luna over at The Great Discontent.  We had to come up with our own hashtag to use to describe our 100 days of making - mine is #100daysofochre.

Here's a look at my Day 29:   Abstract on Canvas (10x10)

Materials Used: Gesso (black), acrylic paints, oil pastels, painted deli paper, acrylic glaze medium, matte medium, Mod Podge (glossy).

I am amazed with this piece because it started with me just slapping on paint and leftover painted deli paper from yesterday's piece (I use it to remove paint). 

Once I added the oil pastels and the splattered black paint it drew me in. I finished it up with the rectangles that were also cut out from the painted deli paper. It has a subtle look from afar but when you get close the colors peak out. Coated with glossy finish.

Being forced to do something everyday really causes you to grow. I am really looking forward to seeing where I will be by day 100. For now I think I will stick with the abstracts, feels good to me. Have you tried your hand at them? 

#100 Day Project - Day 28

Materials Used: Gesso, acrylic paints ,acrylic glaze medium.

I painted the whole canvas in the ochre color and then started making marks.  I didn't like the look so I ended up painting over them - happy I did because I ended up loving it! 

 

#100 Day Project - Day 27

Here's a look at my Day 27:    Mixed Media Postcard
Materials Used: Gesso, acrylic paints, hand carved rubber stamp, paper towel (quote), matte medium, Neo-Color II crayons,  glossy Mod Podge.

Today I have a step-by-step for you. 

1. I created a background using three layers of acrylic paint, applied in a wash, each time a darker shade of blue. I allowed the first two layers to dry but when I added the last layer (the darkest shade) I immediately sprayed it with water and then used a baby wipe to remove some of the layers. After it dried I stamped (hand carved leaf) in white and light green acrylic paint.

2. Taking the quote size into consideration I cut a hole in the center of the paper using a utility knife. 

3. Using a small piece of paper I painted in green I taped it to the back of the card. I then added the quote inside, using the matte medium.

4. With my sewing machine I zigzagged around the perimeter of the hole I had created,  using different sizes for added interest. I sealed the stitching with matte medium.                        

5. I added the ochre crayon to the quote and randomly around the card. I sealed the whole card with the glossy Mod Podge to finish it off.







I know you've seen a few of my postcards with this quote - it's one of my very favorites!

Today I am cheating. Though this piece DOES include the color ochre, I did not paint it. This gorgeous piece was created by my 4 year old granddaughter, Tori Sophia. She definitely has talent!

Now that I see what she can do, I'm going to put her to work! LOL

Here's a look at my Day 24:    Abstract on Wood (7x9)
Materials Used: Gesso, acrylic paint,  oil pastels, Dylusions spray ink, stencil, acrylic glaze liquid.

Love all these blues together with the pops of ochre.
